Musick Facility

The Musick Facility in Irvine, CA is not actually a facility for rythm and melody. Instead the James A. Musick Facility is actually a residence for people that have been singing the wrong tune. The James A. Musick Facility is a one hundred acre minimum security jail known as “The Farm” and is located in an unincorporated area of Orange County near Irvine and Lake Forest. Musick has the capacity to house 1,250 inmates, including both men and women. Inmates housed at the Musick Facility are considered to be a low security risk and most are in jail for crimes such as driving under the influence, minor drug possession, burglary, failure to pay child support, and or prostitution. Inmates who have committed violent crimes, sex crimes or mayhem are not eligible for transfer to Musick.

The James A. Musick Facility provides custodial and rehabilitative programs for 1,250 adult male and female inmates. Educational programs are available for inmates to receive a G.E.D. while incarcerated. Training in agricultural skills is offered as part of a planned and balanced agricultural program. Special emphasis is placed on the production of vegetables and eggs which are used within the department’s Food Services Unit. A laundry facility is also set up to service the other jail facilities as well as Juvenile Hall and the Orangewood Children’s Home.

The James A. Musick Facility is like the Hyatt’s of jails with many amenities such as ping pong and television. Trust me when I say this is the place you want to stay if you ever get arrested.

In Honor of Martin Luther King Jr.

The third Monday of every January has always been set aside to celebrate the great life of Martin Luther King Jr. It is a time to look back and commemorate as well as honor one of the greatest leaders of America. As the spokesman of the non-violent civil rights movement protesting racial discrimination in federal and state law, MLK is a symbol of change, courage and proof of the endless possibilities in America.

MLK Day 2009 will be engraved in history forever as we welcome the first African American President, Barrack Obama. A day that will go down in history forever, it is indeed “Time for a change”. Nothing could better honor the late Martin Luther King, Jr. and all those who have fought against racism and discrimination for equality, than to witness the innauguration of the first black president of the United States of America. Dr. King had a dream that he dedicated his life to and that dream is now a reality.

2008 – 2009 NFL Playoffs Wild Cards

This weekend not only capped off the first weekend of the New Year, but was the beginning of the 2008 – 2009 NFL Playoffs. For those of you unfamiliar with the format of the NFL playoffs, the first week always features 4 wild card teams with 2 from the AFC and 2 from the NFC.

Saturday, January 3rd featured two great match ups between the Arizona Cardinals vs. the Atlanta Falcons in the early game and the San Diego Chargers vs. the Indianapolis Colts in the late game. The early game featured a team that had not made a playoff appearance in decades (Arizona Cardinals) against a franchise that turned it all around after the Mike Vick debacle with a rookie quarterback (Atlanta Falcons). A very entertaining game with the resurgence of running back Edgerrin James leading the Cardinals to a 30 – 24 victory. The late game had all the history and buildup of a seasoned rivalry with the San Diego Chargers, who barely made it into the playoffs just a week ago, taking on the newly named MVP Peyton Manning in what may be Tony Dungy’s last game as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. This game only added fuel to the rivalry with San Diego winning in sudden death overtime scoring on the first possession of the extra period 23 – 17.

Sunday, January 4th featured the Miami Dolphins vs. the Baltimore Ravens in the early game with the Minnesota Vikings vs. the Philadelphia Eagles in the late game. After turning their franchise around with gutsy calls such as the wildcat formation, the Miami Dolphins were dominated by the defense of the Baltimore Ravens who came up with 5 turnovers in a 27 – 9 victory. The late game featured a rookie quarterback in Tarvaris Jackson against the long time franchise face of the Philadelphia Eagles Donovan McNabb. The veteran experience of the Eagles held on for a 26 -14 victory over the Vikings.

I couldn’t have asked for a better way to start off the New Year of 2009, than with a weekend packed full of great NFL playoff intensity and emotions. This weekend the division leaders will be taking on the winners of the wild card games.

Mammoth Mountain, CA

Voted best Terrain Park in October 2008 by Ski Magazine, Mammoth Mountain Resorts is open top to bottom with all lifts fully operational, over 94 open runs and a base of 64″ – 100″! That’s at least 5 feet of snow across the entire mountain! It doesn’t get any better than this in Southern California when it comes to snow play. Snow conditions range from fresh powder to packed powder, as well as machine groomed on all runs. The western United States has not seen snow conditions this great, this early in the winter in over 25 years.

Beautiful Snow Conditions at Mammoth, CA

I paid a visit to Mammoth with some friends yesterday and have not seen better conditions in my entire life. We took a day trip driving just under 5 hours one way to enjoy the great conditions before the New Year. I’d strongly recommend making a visit to Mammoth Mountain, as conditions like this only come around once or twice a lifetime.

At last old man winter has come a knocking at our door. This was in Big Bear Lake, CA where overnight they accumulated over 2 feet of brand new snow fall. We’re talking fresh powder here. Just take a look!

Arizona has recently been getting a lot of rain as well meaning snow in the mountains including Flagstaff and the White Mountain Range. Check Arizona Snowbowl and Sunrise Park Resort for opening days, hopefully very soon here. I know everyone is eagerly waiting to go play in the snow!

ABC’s

Hello and welcome to my WordPress.com blog. This is my first post so I will start from the beginning. I am a first generation ABC. Many of you may be familiar with the terminology of being a first generation American but how about ABC?

What is an ABC? ABC is the acronym for American Born Chinese. So that would make me the first generation American born Chinese in my family. This is quite and honor for me and something I am very proud of and value. This trait has also had an unsurmountable effect on my life and the person I am. These are my tales, adventures and ramblings of being raised from a traditional Chinese family background in America.
